SEDEMI promotes the country´s hydrocarbon industry, thanks to its contribution to the oil sector

Water and crude oil storage tanks for phase 1 of the Tiputini Process Plant in block 43

The Ecuadorian company SEDEMI, an expert in the field of construction of mega structures, has 45 years of experience, especially in the oil field, making a strong contribution to this industry and supporting the objectives set by the Ecuadorian government to increase production, and thus contribute to the growth of this important sector in the country.

The finances and economy of Ecuador depend largely on oil, being a fundamental factor in national development, since it is the main source of foreign currency that allows financing the state budget. In 2021, the country increased its annual oil exports by up to 51%, going from 4,685 million dollars in 2020 to 7,090 million between January and November 2021, which makes it the main export product essential for the local economy.

Atmospheric tanks are essential structures for the oil industry, since they are large storage containers in which oil and its derivatives are deposited once they have been processed, with the aim of later being transformed into a final product. This is the case of the water and crude oil storage tanks for phase I of the Tiputini Process Plant in block 43 of the Aguarico canton; designed, prefabricated, transported and built in the oil field by SEDEMI.

These structures of 27 meters in diameter and 15 meters high, are mega constructions that were prefabricated within SEDEMI’s own plant, based on ASTM A-36 steel and under high quality certification standards aligned to API 650. The project was delivered complete and operational in a total of 270 days, with an approximate cost of 10 million dollars. This construction was carried out in a consortium between SEDEMI and CONDUTO.

The tanks have all kinds of internal and external benefits necessary for the work in an oil field, such as access to the interior of the structure, a cleaning door, helical ladder to light up the tank, pipes and fire protection systems, perfectly designed to facilitate the work of employees. In addition, they are made of a material that allows a longer lifespan, surviving the climatic conditions of the Aguarico sector.

“A project of this magnitude requires all our commitment, since preparing, transporting and building is a meticulous task that requires great experience, the same that qualifies our staff to do it. Having our own manufacturing plant is undoubtedly a unique benefit of SEDEMI, which allows us to collaborate in this type of construction and be part of the growth of the country’s hydrocarbon industry with a 100% Ecuadorian team,” said Esteban Proaño, CEO of SEDEMI Corporate Group.

SEDEMI Ecuadorian company builds the largest electrical building in Ecuador´s hydrocarbon industry

With the intention of centralizing the energy and distributing it evenly in the Tiputini Process Center (CPT), of block 43 – ITT, the Ecuadorian company SEDEMI built the “Power Control Building – PCB-40000” with an estimated value of 3’000,000.00 in a total of 150 working days, delivering the building 100% operational, which demonstrates the efficiency in the construction of this highly equipped facility.

The benefit of this electrical building is of high value for the Ishpingo, Tiputini and Tambococha platforms belonging to block 43 – ITT, providing the oil industry with the ability to monitor and control energy distribution operations in all stages of crude oil treatment: exploration, extraction and transportation.

The structure and technology of the electrical and control room called PCR or PCB-40000, allows the integration of all electrical activities in a single point of operation, allowing to concentrate within the same place the power equipment for energy distribution, the electronic equipment for the monitoring and control of the energy to be supplied and the auxiliary service systems for the PCR, ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the staff, as well as an efficient performance of electrical and electronic equipment within an air-conditioned environment. This project helped to have a centralized control of oil exploitation, obtaining great achievements in the generation, transport and distribution of energy.

The construction of this electrical building was a challenge for Sedemi. Its 45 years of experience in the construction of mega structures, allowed it to deliver the project in a record time, fulfilling expectations. This first class electrical and containerized control building distributes, stores and centralizes energy to block 43-ITT. Internally, the building includes workstations, administration offices and meeting rooms; as well as architectural finishes specifically designed to optimize control and energy systems.

The functions it performs are at various voltage levels, so the PCB is able to contain, integrate and manage equipment and electrical and electronic systems safely for both the personnel and the equipment in the PCB.

Previously this energy was achieved through electric generators, now all Tiputini energy platforms are interconnected to the electrical building, being the heart and matrix of the sector, an innovative alternative to lay the way to new operating systems of energy control, contributing to the development of the hydrocarbon industry of the country and guaranteeing the good performance and operation of installed equipment and construction material.

To comply with this precedent, SEDEMI developed the conceptual engineering, basic engineering and detailed engineering for the electrical and control building, allowing to establish the milestones that guaranteed the appropriate technical conditions for a correct operation of the PCB.

“The construction came true thanks to the work of 120 professionals trained for this mega project. As an Ecuadorian company, we appreciate the trust placed in us to build the buildings of tomorrow, which are undoubtedly a major contribution to the development of the hydrocarbon and oil industry, a sector that is advancing daily and is of great importance for the economy of the country” commented Esteban Proaño, President of the SEDEMI Corporate Group.
